Anita Jo Fischer

Anita Jo Fischer, 84, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, January 30, 2023, at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John Trice officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned from 6:00 to 7:00PM, Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the funeral home, 304 N 2nd Street, Haskell, Texas.

Anita Jo graduated from Haskell High School in 1956. She attended Ranger Junior College from 1956 to 1957. She married the love of her life, Walter Eugene "Gene" on July 30, 1957 and became a proud farm wife for 66 years. For a short time she served as the Recreational Director at Haskell Healthcare Center and as the office manager for Paint Creek Water Supply. Her most fulfilling job was her educational position at Paint Creek I.S.D. from 1995 to 2004.

Nana, as she was affectionately known, was loved by her grandchildren, friends, and family. She was a meticulous seamstress, poet, and craftsman. When the family gathered for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Nana enjoyed preparing homecooked feasts. Nana was also an accomplished pianist for nearly 50 years at Paint Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Gena Trice and husband John of Ft. Worth, Linda Ramsay and husband Peter of Rowlett, and Kay Creek and husband David of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Joshua Trice and Itzel, Jaqi Trice Garvin and Patrick, Craig Lowrance, Cole Lowrance, Kade Creek and Brianna, Brianah Coalson and Creed, and Michael Creek; five great grandchildren, Liam, Remi, and Emma Trice, Luke, and Logan Garvin, and Koda is on the way; and one niece, Sheree Peters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, W. C. and Bertha Humphrey; husband, Walter Eugene "Gene" Fischer; and sister Dorris Hazelwood.
