Annie H. Darnell Decker, 93, went to be with her Father in Heaven at 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Haskell, Texas with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Graveside will immediately follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Decker, Sonny Matthews, Lonnie Decker, Sammy Decker, Ricky Decker, Bobby Darnell, George Sherman, and Elbert Johnson.
Mrs. Decker was born January 5, 1919 in Haskell to Albert B. and Beatrice M. Barnett. She married John W. Darnell on January 15, 1938 in Haskell and had 51 years together. John passed away August 13, 1989. They had 4 children, John W. Darnell, Jr. and wife Sherry of Lantana, Texas; Donna Kate Sexton and husband Jack of La Grange, Texas; Deborah Ann Laird who passed away October 10, 2006; and infant George who is also deceased.
She was a full time working mother long before it was popular, operating a retail store in Oakland, CA, while John worked in the shipyards during WWII. She then managed accounts in Haskell's Oldsmobile dealership in the 1950's. She later worked for Johnson Pharmacy.
Mrs. Darnell married J.E. "Cleve" Decker on June 2, 1995 and they were happily married for 15 years. Cleve passed away on March 5, 2010.
She is survived by her two children and four grandsons, Joel K. Howell and wife Tammy of Grapevine; R. Kevin Howell and wife Gayla of Southlake; M. Kelly Howell and wife Susan of Mesquite; and Jon P. Howell and wife S. Kelly of Prosper; and granddaughter, Jackie Grohman and husband Jason of Hondo; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by five step-children, Joe D. Decker and wife Joyce of Bronte; Martha N. Matthews and husband Sonny of Stanton; J. Lonnie Decker and wife Trisha of Stanton; Sammy Decker and wife Beverly of Haskell; Ricky B. Decker and wife Kathy of Waco; eight additional grandchildren; ten more great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two children, on brother, Albert Barnett and wife Laverne; two sisters, Ella Mae Brown and husband Max; and Naomi Schwab and husband Ray. Jeffery A. Darnell preceded his grandmother in death on February 10, 1995.
