Barbara Swearengin, 73, a longtime resident of Knox City, TX, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Knox City with Bro. Herman Martin officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.
Barbara was born May 21, 1944 in Rochester, TX, to Lavada (Brown) and Clarence Martin. She married J.C. Swearengin in 1980, in Rochester. Barbara grew up in Rochester, moved to Lubbock, and later resided in Knox City. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Walton; son, Reginald Swearengin and wife Gwen; sister, Emma Martin and husband Frank; two brothers, Herman Martin and wife Emma Lee, and Johnnie Martin; two step-sisters, Ethel Slaughter, and Betty Walker; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lavada and Clarence Martin; husband, J.C. Swearengin; two sisters, Ethel Ford, and Dorothy Brantley; and five brothers, Joseph Martin, Mack Martin, Clarence Martin Jr., Larry Martin and Freddie Martin.
