Benino Granado

Benino Granado, 90, of Haskell, Texas passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Haskell Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in Haskell with Father George Roney officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 15 at the funeral home with a rosary being held at 7:00 p.m.

Benino was born August 2, 1922 in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Macedonio and Cleofas Granado. He married Lupe Contreras on January 11, 1963. Benino loved the cowboy way of life and was a true and loyal worker to the ranches he had worked. In his earlier years he was dedicated to Jim McFarlain and his ranch in Baird, and then later began working with Royce Adkins and his race horses. He developed a very close friendship with Royce that lasted many years and respected and admired him for his knowledge and the friendship they had. In 1972, while still working with Royce, Benino began working at the L and N Cattle Ranches in Stevens and Haskell Counties. He was a true and loyal addition to the ranch and was sincerely appreciated in every aspect over many, many years. Benino was a kind and very good hearted man and was "plenty good at what he did". He will certainly never be forgotten and will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Macedonio and Cleofas Granado; 2 sisters, Hilda Alicia Stewart Gay, and Dora Terrazos; 2 brothers, Carlos Granado and Fred Granado.

Benino is survived by 5 sons, Freddie Granado of California, Arthur Rodriquez of Waco, Texas, Frank Granada of Haskell, Benino Granado, Jr. of Haskell, and George Granada of Valley Mills, Texas; his 6 daughters, Linda Fuentes of Houston, Irma Granado of Ft. Worth, Emilda Granado of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Lolly Granado of San Francisco, California, Hilda Granado of Midland, Texas, and Rosemary Cedillo of Castroville, Texas; his brother, Joe Granado, Sr., and half brother, Frank Granado, both of Ft. Stockton, Texas; 1 sister, Mary Vela of Galveston, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.
