Betty Frances Clark, resident of Haskell, Texas, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 24, 2015, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell, Texas. Frances was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Rochester, Texas, with Rev. Jim McCurley officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., after the services, at Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, March 1, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rochester located at 200 South Lincoln Avenue.
Frances was born March 26, 1926, in Rochester, Texas, to John Morton and Clara Alice (Pate) Hamilton. She attended Foster community school her first six years and then Rochester schools. Frances graduated high school in 1943. After graduating, she attended Durham's Business College in Fort Worth, Texas and took several night courses at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Frances worked at Western Union in New Orleans, Tulsa, and in Wichita Falls.
She married Steve Warren Clark July 31, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They moved to Kamay, Texas and she worked at a Telephone office for four and a half years, then they moved back to Wichita Falls. Frances helped her husband in his Oil Field Supply business as a bookkeeper and "gofer." She owned and operated Fran's Fabric Shop and taught bowling at Village Bowl in Wichita Falls. After her husbands death, she worked for over six years as a security guard at Wichita Falls air port.
On March 27, 2004, Frances moved to Haskell, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rochester, Texas. In Wichita Falls, Frances was a member of Faith Baptist and then Southwest Baptist. She belonged to Haskell Historical and Genealogy Society, the North Texas Genealogy Society in Wichita Falls and the Sullivan County Historical Society in Sullivan, Indiana. Her hobbies were cooking, crafting, genealogy and sewing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Warren Clark; her daughter, Cathey Jean Clark; parents, John and Clara Hamilton; step-mother, Vera McGuire Hamilton; three brothers, John, Jr., Jerry Lee, and Ben Lewis Hamilton; and infant sister, Barbara Jean Hamilton.
Frances is survived by her one son, Steve Warren Clark of Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandson, James Warren Pitts and wife Vanessa of Wichita Falls, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Chloe Byrd and Sadie Pitts of Wichita Falls, Texas; and one great-grandson, Joshua Rowdy Pitts of Wichita Falls, Texas.
