Betty Roewe

Betty Lou Roewe, 86, passed away peacefully in Haskell, Texas on September 24, 2026.

Betty was born on December 10, 1939, in Evansville, Indiana, to Luther and Virginia Galbraith who preceded her in death. She was raised with strong family values that guided her throughout a life devoted to family and hard work.

Betty met the love of her life, Conrad Roewe, while they were both working at the Western Auto Distribution Center in Dallas. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. In 1969, Betty and Conrad made Haskell their home, where they built a life centered on family, friendship, and community.

First and foremost, Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated herself to raising her children and later took great joy in nurturing and encouraging her grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her family and faithfully attended their sporting events and activities. She was especially devoted to the basketball teams coached by Coach Goodenough and rarely missed a game.

Betty’s home was always a place of warmth, hospitality, and good food. She loved to cook and especially enjoyed canning during the summer. She also enjoyed dancing, attending church, and, in her later years, gathering with friends at the Experienced Citizens Center in Haskell. Betty treasured the time she spent with the people she loved.

In 1985, Betty and Conrad purchased The Sport About in Haskell. For the next 36 years, Betty was a familiar and beloved presence in the community, welcoming customers with a smile, sharing stories, and forming lasting friendships through the business.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Conrad; her son, Randy Roewe and his wife, Terri, of Abilene; her daughter, Julie Goodenough and her husband, Rob, of Abilene; and her son, Roger Roewe and his wife, Jennifer, of Haskell.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shannon Roewe, Bailey Goodenough, Macy Huschka and her husband, Seth, Alec Roewe, Reed Roewe and his wife, Kaelyn, Emma Roewe, Nate Roewe, and Lucy Hatfield; her treasured great-granddaughter, Hallie Roewe; her sister, Barbara Kelley of Columbia, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful companions, Hank and Brown Dog.

Those who knew Betty will remember her loving heart, welcoming smile, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her life was defined by kindness, hospitality, and the joy she found in caring for others. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and countless treasured memories that will continue to live in the hearts of her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. George Catholic Church in Haskell with interment to follow at Willow Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026 at Smith Family Funeral Home, 304 N. 2nd Street, Haskell, TX with a visitation to follow.
