Billie Bob Bowles, of Rule, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Mr. Bowles was 88. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the services at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Monday evening, November 3, 2014, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 600 Robins Avenue.
The only son, Billie Bob was born September 22, 1926, in Longview, Texas to Alma Boyce (Campbell) and Perry Bowles. He served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the ship USS Intrepid. Billie married Lela Lefevre on December 22, 1945, in Colorado City, Texas. He began his career with Roger Delented Cotton Seed Company then moving on to PC3 and finally, retired as a chemical salesman for Wilbur-Ellis. Billie also farmed.
Billie and Lela moved to Rule in 1967 from Loraine, Texas. He proudly served on the Rule City Council for 12 years, honored with Man of the Year in Rule, and twice as Bobcat Booster of the Year. Billie is a very accomplished 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the First Baptist Church in Rule.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alma and Perry Bowles; his step-mother, Evelyn Bowles; and a sister, Doris Dickard.
Billie is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Lela of Rule; 2 sons, Carroll Bowles and wife Joy of Waco, Texas, and Donnie Mac Bowles and wife Pamela Sue of Rule; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Bowles and wife Darlene, Keith Bowles and wife Amy, Michelle Bowles and husband Gerald Perry, and Nathan Bowles; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Peggy Jo Kemp, Frances Smith, and Ann Ingram; and numbers nieces and nephews.
