Bob Turnbow

December 28, 1933 — April 19, 2013

B.R. "Bob" Turnbow, passed away at Regency Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas of Myasthenia gravis disease, an auto immune disease of the muscles. Bob's breathing muscles became impaired from the disease and a breathing ventilator was necessary the last weeks of Bob's life. He sadly lost his battle with the disease Friday morning, April 19, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Weinert with Rev. Dan Bullock officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

The youngest of 11 children, Bob was born December 28, 1933 in Haskell, Texas to Jeff and Mattie (Brown) Turnbow. The family moved to east Texas when Bob was very young where his father farmed. At the age of 7, Bob's father passed away and the family moved back to Haskell County to the Mattson Community. Bob began his farming career at the age of 12 to support him and his mother until 1953 when Bob began working for West Texas Utilities.

Bob was a determined hardworking soul whose physical strength matched his inner strength and determination to do anything he set his mind to doing. His respect from colleagues at 'the plant' was legendary for his knowledge and ability make things work. Bob retired from WTU as maintenance supervisor in 1994 and was given the opportunity to focus more time on his farm and raising his beloved registered horses and cattle. His strength and courage was present up until 6 weeks ago as Bob repaired the pivot by standing on a ladder atop his tractor in 25 mile an hour winds. One week later, the disease took over.

Bob married Mayree Hollis after 15 years of friendship the two shared. Bob and Mayree married at the Haskell courthouse on April 11, 1994. They arrived in their own cars, quickly married and Bob had to get back to the farm and Mayree back to the care home in order to care for her mother. The two shared a deep friendship, understanding, and love that continued for another 19 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Mattie Turnbow; 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mayree of Haskell; daughter, Karen Meehan of Tulia, Texas; son, Steven Turnbow of Wichita Falls, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his twin sisters, Jeffe Stapp and Jesse Couch, both of Haskell and numerous nieces and nephews.

If desired, memorials can be given in Bob's name to the First Baptist Church of Weinert, 100 W. McConnel Street, Weinert, Texas 76388.
