Byron Davis Parrott

May 24, 1949 — September 13, 2022

Byron Davis Parrott, a man that many of us grew up with, shared laughs with, and created lasting memories with, passed away in his home September 13, 2022, at the age of 73. He was born on May 24, 1949, in Olney, Texas, to Tom Davis Parrott and Wilda Lee Irons Parrott. He grew up in Throckmorton on his family ranch (est. 1892) where he learned all the skills of an old school cowboy: roping, welding, dancing, cutting up with friends, and enjoying the natural beauty of central Texas. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1967 and continued his studies at Tarleton State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971.

After graduating from college, Byron moved to Guymon, Oklahoma where he worked in a feedlot, becoming well versed in doctoring sick cattle and the basics of agricultural management. As he began to master his craft, he was transferred to manage a ranch in Belcher, LA. Due to a market decline, the ranch lease was terminated. Despite the dire situation, Byron found new opportunities as a businessman. He moved to Paris, Texas, where he worked part time at the funeral home and began a career as a loan officer at First Federal Bank. Due to his dedication and grit, he excelled in his pursuits, becoming the assistant vice president and chief appraiser for the bank. While in Paris, Byron became a pilot and enjoyed motorcycle riding. He also served the community as a member of the Paris chapter of Jaycees, where he learned the true meaning of their creed "service to humanity is the best work of life".

Longing for the sense of community that Throckmorton provided, Byron moved back to his family ranch in 1982. He enjoyed reconnecting with his roots and cherished every aspect of the ranching life. He began operating his own cattle business as well as buying, selling, and hauling cattle for other people. He was truly living out his dream. When the cattle business tightened down, he earned his real estate license in 2000 and built a successful business. In 2007, he became a broker and a partner forming Hibbitts and Parrott Real Estate. A true testament to his hard-working nature, he continued to serve his clients until his final months of life.

Byron was blessed with a large, close-knit family that admired and loved him dearly. He is survived by his three children, Julie Shelby (husband Wade) of Midland, TX, Chad Parrott (wife Stacey) of Paris, TX, and Jennifer Plemons (husband Matt) of Abilene, TX; his six grandchildren, Jordan Mowles (husband Andrew), Allison Gordon (husband Conoly), Will Shelby, Ashtyn Parrott, Max and Evie Plemons. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Tomile and Terry Lowery of Throckmorton, TX, nephews Curtis Lowery (wife Katie), Matt Lowery (wife Robyn), four great nieces, Matilyn, Charlee, Paislee, and Piper Lowery, and one great nephew, Hayden Lowery, as well as many special cousins and countless dear friends.

He has been a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Throckmorton.

He has served the community as a member of the Throckmorton County Livestock Board, Throckmorton County Appraisal Review Board, Throckmorton ISD School Board, and National Research Conservation Service.

Byron was larger than life. He was committed to his family and friends with a selfless, endearing love, and enjoyed the simple moments that life had to offer. Some of his favorite times were spent with his family and friends, grilling steaks, while watching the sunset over his tank, enjoying a round of golf, or waltzing across the dance floor.

If you ask anyone that he has encountered, they will likely recount his lively, ambitious attitude towards life. He was a hard worker and as many of you know, he might also "have a little job for you, it won't take long, maybe 30 minutes" and often ended in an experience that you'll never forget!

He once said that he wanted to be remembered as a fair and honest man. He certainly reached that goal.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom "Son" and Wilda Lee Parrott and grandparents, Claude and Birdie Irons and Tom and E.P. Davis Parrott.
