Charlene (Pruett) Cook, longtime resident of Throckmorton,Texas passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Throckmorton County Memorial Hospital at the age of 80. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 15, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., located at the Funeral Home 107 N. Austin Throckmorton,Texas.
Charlene was born August 15, 1934 to Elmer Jay Pruett and Ida (Roberts) Pruett in Cement, Oklahoma. Charlene called Throckmorton her home for most of her adult life. She was employed almost 20 years at the Throckmorton Hospital and nearly 30 years at the Throckmorton Nursing Home. She and Bill also owned Cook's Laundromat for 9 years. Charlene, better known as Gran or Granny, devoted her life to her kids and grandkids. She also had a firm belief that food was love. Whether for family or the community, the kitchen was always open. Many have enjoyed hot rolls, brownies, applesauce bread, banana nut cake and more over the years. There was no end to her love and commitment. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Jay Pruett and Ida (Roberts) Pruett; and her husband, Bill Cook.
Charlene is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Mitchell and her husband Bud of Wichita Falls,Texas,Sandy Gober of Throckmorton,Texas, and Na Hodges and her husband Ricky of Throckmorton,Texas; seven grandchildren, John Mitchell and wife Jennifer, Joey Deal and wife Cameron, Renee Harris and husband Paul, James Gober and wife Renee, Caleb Hodges and wife Jeana, Kinsi Voss and husband Kevin, and Kelby Hodges and wife Kimberly; and 15 great-grandchildren.
