Charles R. Lankford, 85, a long time resident of Knox City, TX, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Knox City Cemetery with Mr. Riley Carver officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A visitation is planned from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the funeral home, 210 Ave A, Knox City, TX.
Charles was born February 17, 1932 in Knox City, to Lee (Wilson) and Bill Lankford. He married Janis Carver on October 22, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Rochester. He served as Mayor of Knox City for a long time and served on several boards. He was a Mason and enjoyed hunting. He supported his children and youth in rodeo by building an arena and enjoying the sport. He was a guiding influence and father figure to anyone he felt needed it.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mandy Lankford of Canyon, and Lydia Peaks of Corpus Christi; grandson, Brian Tankersley and wife Heather of Canyon; granddaughter, Brook Carver of Knox City; three great-granddaughters, Paitlyn Tankersley of Canyon, Carver Tankersley of Knox City, and Kaeli Tankersley of Knox City; two great-grandsons, Jaxon Tankersley of Canyon, Kaleb Whittle of Floydada; Payton Tankersley and wife Kristie of Knox City; and brother, Ross Ed Lankford and wife JoAnn of Farmington, NM.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lee (Wilson) Lankford; father, Bill Lankford; wife, Janis (Carver) Lankford; granddaughter, Chrystal Robison; and two brothers, Billy Joe Lankford, and Jack Lankford.
