Charles Swinson

Charles Swinson, 98, a long time resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, Haskell with Rev. David Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow services at Willow Cemetery, Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for 1:00p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, 1600 N 1st St., Haskell, TX 79521.

Charles was born October 3, 1920, in Hunt Co. TX, to Hilah (Bramlet) and Barnie Swinson. He moved to Rochester in the 2nd grade, and graduated in 1938 from Rochester High School. He married Leatrice (Wheeler) on December 14, 1941 in Haskell Co, TX. He and Leatrice put many kids through college. Charles was a brilliant investor and entrepreneur. He worked as a banker, cotton broker, and farmer. Later he was a driver for Bailey Toliver Chevorlet. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1941. Charles volunteered at the nursing home and hospital shaving patients for decades.

He is survived by his wife, Leatrice Swinson of Haskell; granddaughter, Kimberly Thomass and husband Nate of College Station; two great-grandsons, Noah Thomass and Elijah Thomass, both of College Station; niece, Sharon Whitaker and husband Scott of Grand Prairie; nephew, Steven Wheeler and wife Carrie of Electra; cousin, Muriel Nanny and husband W.O. of Haskell; and too many special friends in-and-out of Haskell to list.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Hilah (Bramlet) Swinson; father, Barnie Swinson; mother-in-law, Trudy (Brite) Wheeler; and father-in-law, C.A. Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Charles' name to the charity of your choice.
