Charlie Joe Woods, 94, of Haskell, Texas, passed away Monday morning, July 22, 2013 at Haskell Healthcare Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Willow Cemetery in Haskell with Mr. Phillip Sims officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
One of 10 children, Charlie was born March 2, 1919 in Coal County, Oklahoma to Ernest and Lillie (Shoopman) Woods. He married Nancy M. Arnold in Munday, Texas on December 20, 1941. The couple moved to Haskell in 1951 where Charlie was the mechanic for Bill Wilson Motor Company. He retired after 40 years of service.
Charlie proudly served during WWII in the 5th Division Infantry of the U.S. Army. Charlie was honorably discharged from the Army and received a Purple Heart for the injuries he received and the courage he expressed.
In his leisure time, Charlie loved his Ham Radio and spent many hours operating and communicating with people all over the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillie Woods; 4 brothers, Glenn Woods, Elton Woods, J.E. Woods, Clinton Woods; and 1 sister, Clara Mae Davis.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Nancy M. Woods of Haskell; 2 daughters, Pat Marr and her husband Kenneth of Stamford, Darlene Morton of Tye, Texas; 2 sisters, Letha Fay Smith of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Geneva Francis of Yukon, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Roy Woods and Belton Woods, both of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
