Cynthia Lee Adams Young, 70, of Round Rock, Texas, went to her eternal home on July 27, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. The eldest child of Christopher S. Adams, Jr., and Mary Alene (Mitchell) Adams, Cynthia, was born on April 27, 1954, in El Paso, Texas. The daughter of a career USAF dad, home was wherever family was. Like many military kids, Cynthia attended several different schools and universities. She graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1972. Upon graduation, Cynthia attended Texas Tech University before following her family to Knob Noster, Missouri, where she attended Central Missouri State University. Cynthia graduated in 1976, with a BS in Mass Communications/Journalism. She followed her family again to Tucson, Arizona, before returning to Lubbock to further her studies at Tech. It was there that she met her soulmate, Jackie Young, Jr., whom she married on June 25, 1977, in Abilene, Texas.
Cynthia continued her studies at the University of Texas Arlington, where in 1980, she earned an English Language Arts degree and Teaching Certificate. For seven years, Cynthia taught English, journalism, speech and debate at both Everman and Arlington ISD high schools; she also coached high school theatre in Arlington. She was an award-winning debate coach, whose teams won several State UIL honors and accolades.
Continuing a path that defined her youth, Cynthia left Arlington with Jackie as he advanced his Educational Administration career. Cynthia was Jackie's cheerleader, partnering with him as they moved to Commerce, Nacogdoches, Palestine, and finally, Round Rock. Along the way, Cynthia continued to teach part-time, as both a substitute and summer-school teacher. She also contributed to her communities volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Cynthia's passions expanded far beyond teaching, she studied dance well into adulthood, and enjoyed musical pursuits both as musician and fan. She considered herself a bit of a "foodie," who was always ready for family gatherings with Christmas fudge or a pan of lasagna. Having never had children, she loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own.
Cynthia was a cherished wife, daughter, sister and aunt, who wasn't afraid to speak her mind or laugh out loud. She is survived by her husband, her parents, her mother-in-law Mary Jane Young, sisters Charlotte Larkin (David), Cheri Hollis (Paul), and brother, Christopher, III (Lisa), sister-in-law Deborah Niell (Barry), nieces Jacquelyn Fauver (and family), Caitlyn Scheible (Derek), and Summer Adams, nephews Daniel Stauffer (Kris), Zach Hollis, Jake Hollis, Dustin Collins (and family), and Trevor Niell (and family).
She will be missed by all who loved her.
