Daniel Burson

December 3, 1934 — October 10, 2012

Jessie Daniel Burson, 77, and lifelong resident of Haskell passed away at his home, Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Willow Cemetery with Rev. Jim McCurley officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Friday evening, October 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dan Burson was born December 3, 1934 in Haskell to Theo and Eda Mae (Tidwell) Burson. Dan attended Shamrock and Haskell schools and during his teens, he and his brother, Travis, operated Burson Brothers Grocery Store in Haskell. Dan served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in the late 1950's. He began working for Texas Department of Transportation and then later for Southland Seven/Eleven Corp., both of which he is retired.

Dan loved his family and friends, enjoyed his retirement and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He will be greatly missed from all who were familiar seeing Dan riding his bicycle around town. Dan was a kind and gentle man that "never had a bad word for anyone".

He is preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Eda Mae Burson; 2 brothers, Clarence Burson and most recently, Travis Burson; his sister, Doris Lee Burson; and his very loving Aunt and Uncle, Viola and Chunky Tidwell.

He is survived by his niece, Joni Diane (Burson) Speegle of Katy, Texas and nephew, David Bruce Burson of Wolfforth, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Dan's name to the Haskell Experienced Citizens at 1404 S. 1st Street, Haskell, Texas 79521.
