David Charles "Coach" Burson

David Charles "Coach" Burson, 79, a lifelong resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at Willow Cemetery, Haskell with Mr. John Sam Rike officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.

David was born November 25, 1939 in Haskell, to Ella Belle (Lane) and Leon Burson. He married Darlene Laird on June 7, 1991 in Haskell, TX. David was an avid golfer, fisherman, coach, teacher, farmer, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Laird) Burson of Haskell; sister, Janice Carol Hill and husband Larry of Abilene; son, Dustin Lane Burson and wife Kristi of Dallas; daughter, Jennifer Jane Newsom of Dallas; stepson, Larry Hicks of Abilene; seven grandsons, Dylan James Burson of Orlando, FL, Zachary Alan Burson of Ben Wheeler, Nicholas David Newsom, Brock Elliott Burson, Bryce Lane Burson all of Dallas and Seth Hicks and Abel Hicks both of Abilene; and two granddaughters, Kaleigh Hicks, and Emily Hicks both of Abilene.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ella Belle and Leon Burson.
