David Garren

David Garren, 69, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Knox City. A memorial service officiated by Curtis Schrader will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 1:00pm at the First Methodist Church, 406 2nd St, Knox City. Cremation services under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.

David was born October 13, 1953, in Liverpool, Ohio to Martha and Junior Garren. He worked as a paramedic in Houston. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's of Science and worked as a Physicians Assistant in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and enjoyed learning about it from his grandmother who was full Cherokee. He married Ginger Garren on December 31, 1998, in Abilene, TX. He built a coffee house in Sweetwater, Texas. He co-owned 2 Sonics, in Junction City and Salina, Kansas, before retiring due to health problems. He volunteered at the Knox County Historical Commission. While volunteering there, something he enjoyed so much, he made their beautiful calendars that he was so proud of. David was always busy doing something different. He enjoyed life and new adventures.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ginger Garren; sisters, Susan Clarius and husband Jay, Rachel Ard; two "adopted" sons, Abel Johnston and wife Laura and Seth Johnston and wife Lacy; two grandchildren, Jolie Johnston and Drew Johnston; mother-in-law, Doris Crownover; and host of other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha Garren McCann and Junior Garren; step-father, Linn Wood McCann, and brother, Milton Garren.
