David Gene Larned, 74, of Haskell, Texas passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell, Texas with Reverend Terry Bunch and Reverend Larry White officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Sunday, April 17, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 304 North 2nd Street, Haskell, Texas.
David was born on June 7, 1941 to Grover Mather Larned and Betty Elizabeth Larned. He served in the United States Army for 3 years active and 3 years reserved and was stationed in Germany. He worked in the Phosphate Mines in Florida, then moved to Texas and learned the carpentry trade. He later became the maintenance supervisor for Haskell Housing Authority for 19 years. David married Azile Cunningham on February 7, 1975. They shared 41 years together.
David is survived by his wife, Azile; twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Larned of Florida; Uncle Tommy Larned of Florida; brother-in-law, Donald Cunningham and wife Denia; two sisters-in-law, Charlene DelValle and Maxine Judd; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom David loved as if they were his own children. He also had lots of cousins, including Tim Larned, Sammy Larned, Casey Larned, Johnny Larned and Shirley Storey.
He is preceded death by his parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.
