David Eugene Merchant

July 6, 1943 — January 5, 2018

David Eugene Merchant passed from this life into the arms of his Savior, January 5, 2018, after a long illness. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m., Monday, January 15, 2018 at Willow Cemetery, Haskell with Mr. Phillip Sims officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.

He was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas on July 7, 1943, the son of Mattie Ruth Richey and Wilburn Lloyd Allen. David was adopted when he was four years old by Glenn A. and Maggie (Boggs) Merchant of Haskell, Texas.

David previously lived in Haskell, Texas where he grew up, and California and Texas. Since the mid 1980's he has lived in the Dallas Metroplex area. He was a Cosmetologist and loved to fix hair and have fun with his many clients. David also loved his church, gardening, sewing, and was an accomplished cook. He loved his family, children and grandchildren.

David is predeceased by his mother, Ruth Aricheta; his step-father, Melecio Aricheta, both of Dallas; his foster parents, Glenn and Maggie Merchant of Haskell, Texas; and two brothers, Paul Merchant and James Emmons.

He is survived by a daughter, Carla Maraglio of New York, and a son, Art Merchant of Dallas; a grandson, Scotty Reed of Dallas; a sister, Pamela Pollard of Memphis, TN; a brother, Milton Aricheta of Dallas; and four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
