David Melvin Miller, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas passed away Friday afternoon, July 4, 2014 at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell with Rev. Morris Johnson and Charles O. Fisher officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, July 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 304 N. 2nd Street.
David was born March 12, 1942, in Haskell, Texas to Juanita Jewel (Jenkins) and Jacob Melvin Miller. A graduate of Haskell High School, David married Sue Cox on July 29, 1962, at the First United Methodist Church in Rochester. David enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved restoring old cars, racing stock cars, and flying. He made friends everywhere he went and never knew a stranger.
He was a devoted member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church were he served as Deacon. David farmed and was retired from the City of Haskell as Director of Public Works.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Juanita Miller of Haskell.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Sue Miller; his children, Tammi Hawkins and husband Steve, and Jay Scott Miller all of Haskell; grandchildren, Lindsay Pannell of Canyon, Texas, Bailey Hawkins and Shelby Miller of Haskell; brother, Kenny Miller of Snyder, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
