Deveris "Hoot" Holmes

Deveris Wesley "Hoot" Holmes, 67, of Rochester, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on August 20, 2025.

Hoot was born on December 23, 1957, in Knox City, Texas, to Grady and Ileta Holmes. He graduated from O'Brien High School with the Class of 1976. Following graduation, he worked in the oilfield and spent much of his life farming-something he took great pride in.

In his younger years, Hoot loved dancing and spending time with his friends. More recently, his greatest joy came from his daily drives around town with his beloved dog and best friend, Rusty.

Hoot was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Ileta Holmes, and his brothers, Gayle Holmes and Lynn Holmes.

He is survived by his sons, Jeremy Eaton and wife Lynnzie, and Adam Holmes and wife Ashley; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother Alan Holmes and wife Jennifer of Haskell, TX; and his sister Donna Patterson of Rochester, TX.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Johnson, Steve Johnson, Rocky Holmes, Brian Holmes, Jay Holmes, and Joe Godsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Eaton and Adam Holmes.

A luncheon will be provided for the family at the Rochester Firehall at 2:00 PM.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Rochester Cemetery at 4:00 PM., with Rev. Riley Carver officiating under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Enhabit Hospice Care in Hoot's memory.
