Don Thompson

Virgle "Don" Thompson, 71, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Gibson Healthcare Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell, Texas, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating. A visitation is planned for Thursday evening, January 28, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Haskell located at 304 N. 2nd, Haskell, Texas 79521.

Don was born April 8, 1944, in Haskell County, Texas to Amos Thompson and Donnie Irene (Logsdon) Thompson. Don married Caren (Haynes) Thompson on September 24, 1977, in Haskell, Texas. He enjoyed fishing, refurbishing bicycles, and raising calves and chickens.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Amos Thompson and Donnie Irene (Logsdon) Thompson; step-father, Justin Pueschel; and one sister, Darlene Elmore.

Don is survived by his wife, Caren Thompson of Haskell, Texas; daughter, Jessica Sorley and husband Calvin of Rule, Texas; son, Jeffrey Thompson of Abilene, Texas; sister, Patricia Tollett of the Houston area in Texas; four grandchildren, Chase Thompson, Ragen Thompson, Callie Sorley and Brandon Mitchell; four honorary grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
