Doris Jean McMeans

Doris Jean Roberts McMeans, precious wife, mom, and Mamaw, ran into the arms of her savior on September 14, 2026. Her legacy of unconditional love, faith, and selflessness will honor her for generations to come.

To know her was to love her. Doris Jean, known by so many as Mamaw, radiated joy to all she came in contact with. A random stranger would leave with a smile, a hug and their day a little lighter. Even in her final days, she brightened the day of everyone who interacted with her - always smiling and kissing a hand.

Born June 24, 1938 to Doris and G. W. Roberts in Haskell. Doris Jean was the light of their life. After passing from this life on the exact same day as her beloved daddy, she is enjoying a beautiful reunion with her parents, brothers and sister.

Her amazing career as a saleswoman and co-owner of Heads or Tails gave her daily opportunities to share her smile and a kind word with all who came by. She was involved on the city council and selflessly served in many capacities in Haskell and at East Side Baptist Church. She was awarded “Outstanding Citizen of he Year” in 1997 for Haskell.

Doris Jean lived and shared her faith daily and her walk with Jesus helped her navigate the losses of her loved ones as she knew Jesus had them. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Bobby, Albert, and her 6 year old sister, Alta Mae; her son Heath McMeans; and her grandson, Joseph Phemister.

Her legacy, stories, and example of her life will be carried on by her husband, Max McMeans of Haskell; her children, Rick Phemister of Haskell, Randy and Lori Phemister of Canyon, Melissa and Clay Bulls of Abilene, and Misty and Paul Gibson of Haskell; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous aunts, cousins, and friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests to honor her by donating to East Side Baptist Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Friday, September 18, 2026, at East Side Baptist Church in Haskell with interment to follow at Willow Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled from 6:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell.
