Doris May Strickland

May 15, 1915 — July 12, 2015

Doris "Dan" (Miller) Strickland, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell, Texas at the age of 100. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, at 6:00-7:00 p.m., located at the Funeral Home 304 N. 2nd Haskell,Texas.

Dan was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Miller in a dugout in New Mexico in 1915, where they were homesteading. Her family moved to Haskell County around 1918 and settled there. Dan married David Sadler Strickland in 1931 and was a busy farmer's wife. She also was a nurse's aide at Haskell Memorial Hospital as well as employed by Lane Felker. Dan was devoted to her family and husband. They were married 64 years. She loved the outdoors and working in her yard which she did until shortly before her death.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Elbert Miller and Trini May (Phillips) Miller; husband, David Sadler Strickland; grandson, Kelly Scott Strickland; two sisters, June Blossom Alexander and Mildred Katherine Tunnell; two son-in-laws, Dale Hugley and Robert Ditto.

Dan is survived by her two daughters, Kay Hugley and Jeanie Ditto; son, David Jim Strickland and wife Debbie; sister,Joy Brown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Haskell Senior Citizens Center.
