Doris Cook Tharp
January 20, 1929 — November 5, 2015
Doris Cook Tharp, 86, passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus on November 5, 2015. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Christian Center Church in Throckmorton, Texas. Burial will take place immediately following services at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Saturday, November 7, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., located at 107 N Austin, Throckmorton, Texas.
Doris was the third child born to Joe F. Cook and Annie Mae Nichols Cook on January 20, 1929 in Throckmorton, Texas. She married Theron Cay Tharp on August 18, 1946 and made their lifelong home in Throckmorton.
Doris taught children's Sunday school for over 30 years and she and her husband were founders of the Throckmorton Christian Center Church. She was an avid oil painter and loved giving her paintings to friends and family. She was a Charter member of the PTA of Throckmorton ISD, and of the local Junior Women's Club who were instrumental in getting a swimming pool for the City of Throckmorton.
Doris always had a cute story to tell and most of them really were true. She also had a one-liner to reply to almost any question. She enjoyed mostly sharing how good God was to anyone that would listen. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by two daughters, Julia Keeter and husband John, and Jenny Burns and husband Tom; one grandson, Corey Jon Keeter and wife Brandi; two great-granddaughters, Kelsey McCay Keeter and Karlee Faith Keeter; one brother, Jimmy C. Cook of Tennessee; aunt Vernell Wiemers of Temple, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
