Dorothy Lane Strickland, passed away in her home on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the age of 86. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Church of Christ in Rochester. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Rochester Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Friday evening, August 14, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 200 S Lincoln Ave., Rochester.
Dorothy was born February 1, 1929, in Haskell, Texas, to Willis Harden and Alta Zuffer (Mullins) Amonett. Dorothy married William Ira Strickland in June 5, 1946 in Benjamin, Texas and they lived in Rochester most of their years. She was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of Church of Christ in Rochester.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willis Harden Amonett and Alta Zuffer (Mullins) Amonett; husband, William Ira Strickland; sons, Willis Jay Strickland, and Robert Darrell Strickland; two grandchildren, Brian Jay Strickland, and Justin Baty; brothers, Roy Alton Amonett, Bill Pannell, and James Pannell.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Eldon Ray Amonett; sister, Nannie Burns; sister-in-laws, Frances McClure, and Loveta Strickland Hearn; children, Clifton Ray Strickland of Rochester, Alta Lonnetta Farrar of Rochester, Teresa Yuvonne Yates of Rochester, and William Alton Strickland of Benjamin; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
