E.G. "Mutt" Ivie, 96, a longtime resident of Knox City, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the O'Brien Baptist Church, O'Brien, Texas. Burial will follow the service at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Munday, Texas under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes, Knox City. A visitation is planned from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the funeral home, 210 Ave. A, Knox City, Texas.
Elton Glen "Mutt" Ivie, was born on August 21, 1927 in Cisco, Texas to Edna(Frye) and William Ivie. Mutt entered the U.S. Navy on February 7, 1945. He served as Fireman 1st Class U.S. Navy CASU 33 aboard US Manila Bay C V E 61 in World War II South Pacific-Philippines from 1945 to 1946. He was awarded an American Theatre Medal and an Asia/Pacific Theatre Medal. He then married Bertie on July 19, 1948 in Cisco, Texas. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed wood working and carpentry. He was a devoted worker on site and loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edna and William Ivie; wife, Bertie Ivie; son, David Ivie; daughter-in-law, Pat Ivie; six brothers; Marshall, Paul, Marvin, Walter, Wilbourne, and Cecil.
He is survived by his son, Johnny Ivie and wife Missie of Knox City; grand daughters, Nicki Eckman and husband Scott, Holly Merritt and husband Cory, Sheri Warren, Jessica Swanson, Jennifer Bergman and husband Butch; grandsons, Jason Ivie, Buck Ivie and wife Terri, Joshua Ivie, Don Patterson and wife Renae, Tony Patterson, Nicholas Patterson and wife Amanda and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
