Elizabeth Irene (Goodwin) Day

April 20, 1940 — March 24, 2018

Elizabeth Irene Goodwin Day, 77, of Keller, TX, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Church of Christ, Knox City with Mr. Jim Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow services at the Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.

Elizabeth was born April 20, 1940 in Lubbock, to Irene (Ross) and Virgil Goodwin. Elizabeth graduated from Monterey High School in 1958 and later graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters Degree in Education. She reached the top of the Texas teaching career ladder at Friendship School district in Wolforth, Texas. She was awarded as a distinguished educator and given the Who's Who Among Americas Teachers Award. This award was selected by one or more students for a teacher who "made a difference in their life". She was respected by all of her teaching peers as well as the administration. She was greatly appreciated and influenced many teachers and administrators as she led with integrity in many areas. She has been a leader among her peers, but her greatest accomplishments have been the many children's lives she has touched and impacted for eternity. She taught kids to believe that they can accomplish anything if they will work hard and work diligently. She taught them to believe in themselves and the talent and gifts God has given them. She was a true representation of what Christ called us to live like. She continually expressed kindness, patience, and love of Christ to everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Grissom Day of Keller; daughter, Diana (Day) Burks and husband Kevin of Keller; daughter-in-law, Sandra Day-Peck and husband Rusty of Keller; four grandsons, Austin Rucker Burks; Brayden Kevin Burks, Alexander Royal Day, and Joshua Day; two granddaughters, Caitlyn Elizabeth Burks, and Madeline Nicole Day; sister, Marilyn Clark of Denison; three nieces, DeAnn, Amy, and Carol; and dearest friends, Sandra and husband Jerome Schuetzeberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Virgil Goodwin; and son, Mark Day.
