Eloise (Susie) "Mimi" Ray

Eloise (Susie) "Mimi" Ray, 89, a longtime resident of Knox City, Texas, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Midway Cemetery (two miles south of Hodges, TX on Co Rd 428), with Greg Clonts officiating, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.

Susie was born January 25, 1934 in Merkel, Texas to Zelphia (Bird) and Mason Barker.  She married Jerry Ray on December 18, 1950 in Hodges, Texas. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Knox City. She loved reading, sewing, and shopping (especially for shoes). She was truly the mother hen to her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Lowe and husband Jerry Lee of Munday; three sons, Don Ray and wife Christi of Katy, Doug Ray and wife Jane of Knox City, Clifford Ray and Jamie Lowrance of Munday; 12 grandchildren, Stuart, Robin and husband Emilio, Haleigh and husband Bobby, Skylar and wife Kelsie, Kelsey, Amanda and husband Manuel, Brittany and husband Steve, Jeremy and wife Brittany, Justin and wife Rileigh, Jordan and wife Kandace, Brittany, and Mackenzie; 22 great grandchildren; three sister-in-laws, Janelle Barker, Ann Howle, Hortense Ray; special friend, Ed Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry "PaPa" Ray; parents, Zelphia and Mason Barker; and brother Alfred "Butch" Barker.

Memorials may be made in Susie's name to the American Alzheimers Association.
