Emma "Granny Bea" Messenger, 91, a lifelong resident of Haskell, TX, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Haskell, with Rev. Terry Bunch officiating. Burial will follow services at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned from 4:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the funeral home, 304 N 2nd St., Haskell, TX.
Emma was born March 6, 1926 in Haskell, to Lucinda (Reynolds) Cunningham and William Luther Cunningham. She worked as a cook at Rice Springs Care Home for many years.
She is survived by four sons, Kenneth Wayne Messenger of Snyder, Stephen Richard Messenger and wife Barbara of Eustis, FL, Roger Dale Messenger and wife Tina Louise of Rule, and Randell Bert Messenger and wife Johna of Haskell; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lucinda and William Cunningham; husband, Crystal Richard "Shorty" Messenger; daughter, Brenda Cox; grandson, Patrick Messenger; two brothers, Chester, and Norris; and two sisters, Geneva, and Opal.
