Ethel "Missy" Ivie

Ethel “Missy” Ivie, of Knox City, Texas, passed away on January 21, 2026, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 76. She was born on November 18, 1949, in West Columbia, Texas.

Missy was preceded in death by her parents, Leldon White and Ethel Belle Barton; her sisters, Pearl Bederka, Mary Dale Cerda, Karon Skipworth, Sharon Winfield, and Carol Gale White; her brother, Buddy White; daughter-in-law, Jessica Browning, and her niece, Janice Miller.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Johnny Ivie; her sons, Don Patterson and wife Renae, Tony Patterson, and Nicholas Patterson; and her stepdaughters, Nicki Eckman and husband Scott, Holly Merritt and husband Cory, Sheri Warren, and Jessica Swanson. Missy and Johnny were also lovingly raising two of their grandchildren, Xavien Patterson and Sarah Patterson, whobrought great joy to their lives.

She is further survived by her brother-in-law, Randy Skipworth; her dear friend who was like a sister to her, Lou Rios; and a large, loving family of 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Missy was a cosmetologist for over 20 years, a profession that reflected her love for people and her gift for conversation and connection. Throughout her life, she wore many hats, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, and she wore each one with love and grace. Her laugh was unforgettable and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was known for giving the best advice and loving her family and friends fiercely.

Missy was a faithful Christian and a member of O’Brien Baptist Church.

Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held Monday, January 26, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home in Knox City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 27, at 2:00 p.m. at O’Brien Baptist Church in O’Brien, Texas. Rev. Mark Farr will be officiating.
