This is the story of Eva Martinez Flores. Eva was a wonderful strong willed woman that was loved. Grandma, as she was called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, made the best tortillas in the world!
Eva's story began in Kerens, Texas being born to Dan and Lena Martinez. She later moved to Munday and attended Munday schools and at 19 she married Joe Flores. They were married for 69 years and on their 65th Anniversary they were featured on KTAB TV with a special story about their life. Joe passed away this past May.
Miss Eva as she was lovingly known all around the Santa Rosa church community was known for her social skills, mainly talking on the phone for hours. She would always welcome people to the church especially if you were a new face on Sunday morning. Eva sang in the choir for 49 years with her good friend, Ronnie Verhalen. She was also the organist for many years until these past few years where she had to give it up. She was part of the admirable group of ladies from the past who would make homemade tamales and enchilada dinners to sell to the public to help raise funds to build the church hall that many enjoy now. She taught religion education classes for 28 years to many children in Knox City.
Eva 's kitchen was never closed. She enjoyed cooking for friends, family, and anyone that would stop by at the little white house on the hill. It gave her great joy to cook a meal for her kids and grand kids.
Eva was a die hard Republican and she would hate to get phone calls during Hannity. She was a person who stood up for what she believed in and it never bothered her that her opinion was different than yours.
Mother instilled in all her children the importance of God, church and family. Her work in the church was never ending and she taught her children the importance of stewardship.
Loved ones that will miss her will be her children, Sylvia Erwin ( Rich ) from Azle, Irene Smith ( Gary ) from Hodges, and David ( Maria ) Ft. Worth. Her grandchildren, Shane Flores, Brittany Flores, Lance Flores, and Roper Morrow; eight step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; three sisters, Eloise Maldanado, Linda Jecha, and Alice Johnson. One brother Rudy Martinez, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. One special friend, Sister Rita Clare from Ft. Worth.
