Mrs. Evelyn Boyd of Knox City, Texas passed away from this life to her eternal reward Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Mrs Boyd was 90. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 18, 2014, at Church of Christ in Haskell with Mr. Paul Shero officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Knox City Cemetery in Knox City under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Haskell located at 304 N. 2nd Street.

Mrs. Boyd was born on April 23, 1923 in San Angelo, Texas to Lane and Norma Spurger. She married Randy Boyd on August 31, 1940. After 43 years of marriage, Randy passed away in 1983.

She gave her life to the people of Haiti. She spent over 29 years during difficult times in Haiti giving love and care to all the needy. Evelyn resided in Haiti for 10 years and established an orphan's home for her many adopted children. In addition, she formed a preaching training school and was currently trying to establish a medical clinic. Her work and heart for those in Haiti was never ending and the blessings were planted forever.

She is survived by her loving family; son, Shelton Boyd and wife Joetta; daughter, Randy Boyd and husband John Kevil; 6 grandchildren, Keith Kevil and wife Ruby, Kyle Kevil and wife Shanna, Laurie Kevil and husband Greg, Tressie Jones and husband Billy, Lane Boyd and wife Page, Katie Briscoe and husband Travis; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Spurger and wife Fayrene; 67 Haiti children; and many nieces and nephews.

Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law will honor her as pallbearers.
