Flora Mae Tankersley, 89, of Knox City passed away early Tuesday morning, August 14, 2012, at the Knox County Hospital in Knox City. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Knox City Cemetery with Mark Daniels and Steve Willis officiating. Burial will be at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Family and friends can visit the funeral home in Knox City from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, to pay respects to Mrs. Tankersley.
Flora May Pool was born January 25, 1923 in Rochester, Texas to Minnie Edna (Jones) and Odker Elisha (O.D.) Pool, Sr. Flora graduated from Rochester High School and married Buddy Tankersley in November of 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Knox City. Knox City was Flora's home for more than 65 years where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a loving homemaker and a wonderful cook which enabled her to be a beautiful hostess to family and friends. Mrs. Tankersley took great pride in serving children in Sunday school class, as well as, served many years for the church's T.V. ministry for the homebound. Flora was proudly devoted to the Lord and always served Him faithfully without hesitation.
She is preceded in death by husband, Buddy Tankersley; her parents, O.D. and Minnie Pool; 4 brothers, Carl Pool, L.B. Pool, Bill Pool, Cecil Pool; 2 nephews; and 1 niece.
Flora is survived by her brother, whom she adored, O.D. Pool, Jr. and his wife Patsy of Rochester; and her brother-in-law, Sammy Tankersley and his wife June of Knox City.
