Floyd Dale Baker of Haskell, Texas passed away Monday, September 29, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas after a brief illness. Mr. Baker was 64. A visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday evening, October 3, 2014, at Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell with Rev. Brian Burgess offering up prayer.
The only son born to Rev. Lee Roy and Mary Baker, Floyd was born September 12, 1950, in Dumas, Texas. He attended high school in Knox City. Floyd married Penny Meinzer on December 26, 1968, in Knox City. While living in Amarillo, Floyd and Penny owned and operated The Wooden Nickel Restaurant for 8 years. After moving to Odessa, they owned and operated The Water Place and Advanced Cellular Phone Store for 7 years. Floyd and Penny moved to Haskell in 2002 where Floyd owned and operated Smitty's Auto Supply until his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.
Floyd will be missed by so many in the community, but most importantly his wife of 46 years, Penny of Haskell; Bea and Maggie, his beloved dogs; 2 sisters, Marian Nix of Shallowater, Texas and Elaine Evers and husband Charles of Breckenridge, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Judy Logsdon and family of Cisco, Texas.
