Billie Jayne Buntyn Cadenhead was born September 18, 1926 in Okolona, Mississippi at her maternal grandparents home. She ended her "journey on the road to eternity" as she stepped into Heaven on August 12, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Haskell with Rev. Greg Gassaway officiating. Burial will follow services at Willow Cemetery, Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the funeral home, 304 N. 2nd St., Haskell, TX.
She is survived by her four children, Diann Procter, of Waco, TX, Dr. Wayne Cadenhead of Haskell, TX, J.F. Cadenhead III of Vernon, TX, and Helen Cadenhead of Waco, TX; and ten "grands" and thirteen "great-grands".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank Cadenhead, Jr.; her sister, Eugenia Hancock; and three "grands".
Billie accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at the age of 12. Her younger years were spent with family, travel on the railroad and the effects of the Great Depression.
At age 18, her life's journey took her to San Antonio, TX, and the old Trinity University campus for Nurses' Training. While there in May of 1945, she met intern Frank Cadenhead, Jr. on a blind date. In April of 1946, they were married and went with the Army-Aircorp to multiple bases. A family illness led them to Weinert, TX and then Haskell, TX in 1947.
Between 1948-1954, they were blessed with four children. Billie was a devoted mom, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.
In 1972, after ten years, Billie was graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX with a BA Degree with a major in English and a minor in Spanish and her Teaching Certification. She went on to help many adults achieve their GED's and US Citizenship.
Billie and Frank were able to go on Medical Mission trips around the world. God's plan for her on these trips was to love and care for everyone - especially the children.
They were members of Haskell First Baptist Church since 1947.
Mom we love you and miss you! Thanks for the memories!
