Gary Lynn Cox, 63, passed away at Knox County Hospital on June 21, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Primitive Baptist Church in Rule with Pastor Gene Ward officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Gary was born September 26, 1949 in Stamford, Texas to L.B. and Jessie Cox. He was raised in Rule. After marriage, he was a 39 year resident of Rochester. He graduated from Rule High School and later attended Tarleton State University and Cisco Junior College majoring in Agriculture. He was a farmer and an avid cattle and pure-bred swine breeder.
Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shelly Grimsley Cox; daughter, Cary Ann Cox of Rochester; son, Bryan Cox of Graham; his mother, Jessie Fulbright Cox of Rule; sister, Nellon Dillard of Denton; niece, Kim Stafford and husband James of Knox City and their son Kristopher Stafford of the home and daughter, Kursten Martinez and husband Matthew of Abilene; nephew, Heath Dillard of Lubbock; 3 aunts and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.B. Cox; and sister, Pauletta Moore; also, Burt and Naomi Cox of Rule and Lowell and Lucy Fulbright of Rule.
