Gary Eldo Johnson, 61, a long time resident of Haskell, TX, passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, August 17, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Haskell with Dr. Robert Wingrove officiating. Burial will follow services at New Hope Cemetery, Jones County under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017, at the funeral home, 304 N 2nd St., Haskell, TX.
Gary was born October 20, 1955 in Temple, TX, to Franciene (Baker) and Elbert Ruffin Johnson. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelors Degree in Business and followed with DPS Training. He married the love of his life Charlotte Smith on January 1, 2009 in Stamford, TX. Gary was appointed as a DPS Special Ranger upon his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf, watching football, playing with his grandkids, and spending time with friends and family. Gary was a member of Haskell Co. Country Club and Retired Trooper's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Johnson of Haskell; mother, Franciene Johnson of Haskell; brother, Jerell "Judo" Johnson and girlfriend Emily of Marble Falls; four sons, Toby Johnson and wife Alexandra of Jackson, TN, Blade Johnson of Lexington, TN, Justin Arendall and wife Amanda of Haskell, and Matthew Arendall and wife Natasha of Weathorford; daughter, Audra Arendall of Stamford; 12 grandchildren, Casey Arendall, Garrett Arendall, Makayla Arendall, Ethan Arendall, Levi Arendall, Brooklynn Johnson, Vaydin Arendall, Cam Arendall, Kaylee Johnson, Macey Arendall, Hannah Arendall, and Brayden Johnson; aunt, Nelwyn Johnson of Temple, and a host of cousins and lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Elbert Johnson.
