George Robert Gross

George gained his angel wings and flew to Heaven on August 25, 2026. He entered this world on June 30, 1945, to George W. Gross and Alice M. Concilio in Philadelphia, PA. He was reared in Williamstown, NJ. He graduated high school in 1964 and entered the Air Force. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Ila Kay Hutchinson, whom he married on July 17, 1966, in Knox City, TX, celebrating 60 years together.

George had many callings in life to serve God and his community. He was a volunteer fireman for 23 years. He loved teaching the new ones the basics of firefighting. He became an EMT, serving on the ambulance service as a volunteer for several years. George was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of the Eastern Star.

The greatest joy he had was passing out coins with Scripture to people. He was a servant to God in numerous ways that no one knew about.

Growing up in the woods of New Jersey, he hunted and fished with his Uncle Josh and Joe. “Mr. G” was a favorite nickname for him while he was working for the State of Texas in Abilene.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Betty Nicholson and husband Lenny, and Wendy Johnson and husband Oliver.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; two daughters, Ila Kay Lee and husband John, and Debbie House and husband David; two brothers, Paul Gross and wife Johnna, and David Gross and wife Debbie; five grandchildren, Michael Lee, Matthew Lee, Christina Shields, Machelle Barr, and Kolton House; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Foursquare Church in Knox City on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Gary Schnable, Rev. Paul Chambers, and Rev. Mike Kidwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Knox City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, 210 Ave. A. All services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
