George Calvin grew up in Throckmorton, Texas. He attended Throckmorton High School, graduating in 1982. His ornery personality won him the nickname, knucklehead, "Knuck", for short. He lived on The RA Brown Ranch after graduation.

George Married Sandy Morris in November 1988 and to the union George Tyler Self was born. He later married Teresa Kloxin on May 22, 2008. They shared a love of the ranch way of life, hanging out with their dogs, and enjoyed cooking for the wagon competitions at the ranch rodeos together.

George Calvin was a cowboy through and through. There wasn't a horse he couldn't ride or a cow he couldn't catch. His favorite pastimes were Roping, Fishing, Hunting, cooking, and reminiscing over old rodeo "re-rides". George was an excellent cowboy in the arena as well, winning the 1986 Texas Ranch Round Up Top Hand and then walking away with Top Horse & Top Hand again in '88. He also won The Herdsman Award with his pen of F1 heifers at the Fort Worth Stockshow back to back years, as well as, achieving the top selling pens. There were several buckles, saddles, plaques and other tack won over the years but one of his most prized processions was his 1994 cow milking buckle won at Stamford,TX Cowboy Reunion.

George also had the privilege of working with some of the best cowboys in Texas and Oklahoma, on some of the largest and oldest ranches in the United States. He called The RA Brown Ranch, Krooked River Ranch, Caldwell Ranch, Hart Ranch, Matthews Ranch, Nail Ranch, Cooper Ranch, Williamson Ranch, Judd Little Ranch, W.T. Waggoner Ranch, & Rocker b Ranch all home during his 40+years in the ranching industry.

He is preceded in death by his Father George P. Self, his daughter Heather Danielle Self, an uncle Joe Self, and his grandfather, Truett Self.
