Gerald Cheek

April 7, 1932 — February 28, 2014

Edgar Gerald Cheek went to be with our Lord Friday evening, February, 28, 2014 in Haskell, Texas. He was born April 7, 1932 in Baylor County to Joe and Jewel Cheek. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell with Rev. Ted Miller, Bro. James Brigham, and Bro. Morris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Henson Cemetery, a family cemetery in Red Springs, 15 miles west of Seymour, Texas under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Monday evening, March 3, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 304 N. 2nd Street in Haskell. The family can be visited at the home of Scott Langford located at 904 N. 3rd Street East in Haskell.

Gerald was a retired mechanic of many years. He was in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a husband, father, Papa, and Great-Papa. He loved children. Gerald was a member of Assembly of God Church in Stamford.

Those that have gone before Gerald are his son, William Cheek; parents, Joe and Jewel Cheek; 3 sisters, Mae Anders, Winnie McCown, and Nita Green; and 3 brothers, his twin, Edward Earl Cheek, W.H. Cheek and Burl Cheek.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Cheek who he married in 1985; 2 daughters, Marvette Warren and husband Buddy and Saundra Collins and husband Ronny all of Baird; 2 sons, Scott Langford and wife Betsy of Haskell, and Matt Langford of Dallas.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Josh and Erin Collins, Erin and Lee Cooper, Shey and Brianne Cheek, Jason and Monica Langford, and Jodi and Matt Graven; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Billie Vaughn; sister-in-law, Vivian Cheek; and in laws, Bennie Shelton, Vernay and Myrl Andress, and Boyd and Patsy Andress and a host of nieces and nephews.

Gerald loved the Lord and he loved his family. His passion was playing music and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved helping people. He will be greatly missed. He always saw good in everyone.
