Helen "Mammie" Allison

Helen "Mammie" Allison, 89, a long time resident of Rule, TX, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Rule with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Burial will follow services at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rule. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the funeral home, 600 Robins Ave., Rule, TX.

Helen was born December 27, 1927 in Colorado City, to Floy (Humphries) and John Roddy. She married Wallace Allison on February 12, 1948 in Stamford, TX. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and she enjoyed playing Bridge with the Golden Girls. She loved to cook and wrote three cookbooks: Happiness is Homemade, Mammie's Feeding the Flock, and Mammie's Home Cookin'. Helen always helped others by doing good deeds whenever possible.

She is survived by her son, John Allison and wife Celinda of Gardendale; daughter, Jan Briles and husband Art of Horseshoe Bay; three grandsons, Craig Griggs and wife Connie, Johnathan Allison and wife Sharla, and Kendal Briles and wife Sarah; four granddaughters, Kayla Allison, Jancy Briles, Brooke Griggs, and Staley Lebby and husband Jeff; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Floy (Humphries) Roddy; father, John Roddy; husband, Wallace Allison; daughter, Brenda Griggs; great-granddaughter, Blakelee Allison; brother, Rusty Roddy; and son-in-law, James Griggs.
