Herman B. Hearn, 96, a lifelong resident of Rochester, TX, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Rochester, at 10:00a.m., Monday, April 26, 2021 with Rev. Randy Hollingsworth officiating. Committal Service will follow at 1:00p.m., at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Abilene under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rochester. A visitation is planned from 5:00-6:00p.m., Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the funeral home, 200 S. Lincoln Ave., Rochester, TX.
Herman was born August 25, 1924 in Rochester, TX to Andrew Hearn and Minnie (Strickland). He married Betty Wright on December 9, 1942 in Knox City and they enjoyed 78 years of marriage. Herman served in the U.S. Army during WWII earning 3 Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart. After an honorable discharge he enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing guitar. Herman was always proud to volunteer at the American Legion Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Hearn of Rochester; daughter, Trudy Wilcher and husband Randy of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie Hearn; two sons, Melvin Hearn, and Jimmy Ray Hearn; 3 brothers, Everett, Dalton, Arliss; and sister, Jewel.
Memorials may be made in Herman's name to the Disabled Veterans Association, or the Wounded Warriors Project.
