Hubert Harlan Brock resident of Haskell, Texas passed away at his home Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Mr. Brock was 92. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church in Haskell with Rev. J.C. Amburn and Rev. Bruce Ray officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Friday evening, December 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home in Haskell located at 304 N. 2nd Street.
Hubert was born November 23, 1921 in San Gabriel, Texas to Ruth Draper (Reed) and Harlin G. Brock. After high school graduation and in August of 1942, Hubert joined the United States Navy where he served for 4 years and was Honorably Discharged from Camp Wallace, Texas on January 16, 1946. He then made Georgetown his home and during his many years there, Hubert served as the Mayor, member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club and member of the First Baptist Church.
After 37 years, Hubert began a new career as a petroleum landsman, leasing coal, oil, and gas. He was working in Graham where he met Doris Fern Williams and they married February 13, 1985. She traveled with Hubert and he leased minerals in 22 states. The latter part of Hubert's career was spent in Kentucky where Hubert and Doris came to love the people and the mountains. Hubert and Doris attended church wherever they were and supported the church and pastor; they lived for God and worked to help those in need.
Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Harlin Brock; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Wayne.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Doris Brock of Haskell; son, Robert (Bob) Brock; daughter, Charlotte Jean Elliott; stepdaughter, Jama McFadden Park and husband Jerry; 7 grandchildren, Jay, Justin, and Jeremy Louder, Laci Flynn, Meagan Terrell, Michael and Mark Brock; and 6 great-grandchildren.
