Humberto H. "Whitey" Gutierrez, 89, a longtime resident of O'Brien, TX, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00a.m., Monday, August 24, 2020, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rhineland with Father John Perikomalayli officiating. Burial will follow services at the O'Brien Cemetery, O'Brien under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A rosary is planned for 7:00p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2020, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, 210 N Ave G, Knox City, TX.
Humberto was born June 5, 1931 in Gilleland, Texas, to Petra (Hernandez) and Fernando Gutierrez. He married Marcelina (Villa) on September 12, 1949 in Benjamin, TX. He worked a longtime at O'Brien Carney High School and drove the school bus. He enjoyed every sport, but he loved baseball; he even tried out for the White Sox.
He is survived by his wife, Marcelina Gutierrez of O'Brien; 3 daughters, Rosie Brothers and husband Jerry of Azle, Betty Harris and husband Frankie of Terrell, Peggy Driver and husband Trent of Irving; 5 sons, Bert Gutierrez of Cypress, Joe Gutierrez and wife Debbie of Knox City, Oscar Gutierrez of Ore City, Ricky Gutierrez and wife Adela of Breckenridge, Jerry Gutierrez and wife Connie of Burleson; brother, Virgil Gutierrez and wife Juana of Reynosa, Mexico; 25 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; son-in-law, Robert Gamber of Wichita Falls; and daughter-in-law, Julie Gutierrez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Petra and Fernando Gutierrez; daughter, Linda Gamber; grandson, Brandon Gutierrez; 3 brothers, and 1 sister.
