Ida "Nan" Francis Simpson

August 31, 1924 — September 19, 2012

Ida F. "Nan" Simpson, 88, of Rule, Texas passed away at her home early Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Rule. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.


Ida Frances Lofton was born August 31, 1924 in Meridian, Mississippi to Vister Thomas and Ruth Annell (Morgan) Cofton. She met Ernest Simpson in Meridian before Ernest was sent oversees during WWII. They were married on January 25, 1945 in Meridian and the couple soon moved to Rule where they owned and operated Simpson Oil Company for many years. Nan called Rule home for 67 years.

Nan loved to play bridge and to travel, she was a member of Golden Girls and enjoyed watching sports, especially Tiger Woods, the Dallas Cowboys, and Ole Miss. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, V.T. and Ruth Lofton; her husband, Ernest; a brother, James C. Lofton; and a nephew, Bruce Lofton.

Nan is survived by her daughter, Beth Davis of Dallas; 2 sons, Sam Simpson and wife Sharon of Rule, and Larry Simpson and wife Marsha also of Rule; 1 brother, Tommy Lofton of Van Cleave, Mississippi; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Haskell Home Health Care and Hendrick Hospice for the excellent care given to Nan and a special thank you to Dr. William McSmith and Nan's caregivers, Jane Hodges and Cheryl Huckabee for the excellent care and love they expressed during this most difficult time.
