Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged for the Lord your god will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
Irma Munoz (Fatmom) was born May 28, 1943, in Hondo, TX to Refugio and Antonia Benavides. Irma passed away February 7, 2022, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family.
Irma was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. There was nothing Fatmom enjoyed more than her morning cup of coffee and chats with her children and grandchildren. She worked for many years as an in-home caregiver, which was a passion that carried on even after her retirement by opening her home and welcoming all, whether for a meal or a place to stay for the night. Irma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Knox City for over 40 years, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes and sharing her love for Jesus. Fatmom loved to read her Bible, praying for and with others, and spending time with her very large family. Irma enjoyed gardening, collecting and visiting lighthouses and always cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Many hours were spent on the phone with her cherished sister, Dominga Flores.
Irma is preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Antonia Benavides; her husband, Jose Contreras; five brothers, three sisters, and her daughter Rosa Linda Ruiz.
She is survived by her sister, Dominga Flores; children, Lorenzo Ruiz, Josie and Bobby Garcia, Diana and Billy Lerma, Adrian and Nellie Serrano, Salvador and Courtney Serrano, Timothy and Sophia Serrano, Billy and Valerie Contreras, and Sonya Ruiz and Al Rios; thirty-six grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A few days before her passing, Irma described to her family how beautiful she knew Heaven would be. Although we will miss her very much, we are rejoicing in the knowledge that she is now in Heaven reunited with loved ones walking those streets of gold.
