Irma Jean White

May 12, 1947 — April 9, 2022

Irma Jean White, 74, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Graveside service will be held at Willow Cemetery on Friday, April 15, 2022, at 11:00AM, with Pastor Josh Fitchett officiating, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Haskell. Her parents were C.W. Jones and Eloise Frances Proctor. She was born in Kilgore, Texas on May 12, 1947. She married Harvey C. White in 1969, and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death in 2009.

Irma and Harvey lived in Odessa, Texas for many years before moving to Haskell in 1997. Harvey had family in Haskell, so it was normal for them to have large get-togethers where lots of food and fellowship were enjoyed.

Irma loved to do arts and crafts. One of her hobbies was ceramics. She had thousands of molds that filled the back shelves of the old Conner's Nursery and Flower Shop, and her finished pieces were proudly displayed in the front of the shop.

Irma was an organizer, and that is one thing that is particularly noticed when looking at her collection of fabric and beads. Sewing and jewelry were two of her other hobbies. Her sewing room was lined with rows of material that were sorted according to color, and the shelves were filled with jars that contained different colors and shapes of jewelry and beads.

Another one of Irma's favorite things to do was shop. On Saturdays you would often find her at Pink Ladies or an antique shop where she was a master at finding unique and unusual items. Before Christmas, she watched HSN and QVC in order to find the perfect gifts for family and friends.

Jokingly, Irma called herself the "million dollar woman" because of her health problems. One of them required her to go to Abilene three days a week. We called them, her "work days." In order to go back and forth to Abilene, Irma rode the Double Mountain Coach where she made friends, along with the many nurses who cared for her at the center. When there was a special occasion like Halloween or July 4, Irma loved to dress up and decorate her scooter which was a delight for the drivers and nurses to see.

She was a special woman who will be missed by many.
