Jackie Gene Cox of Haskell, Texas, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Stamford Memorial Hospital at the age of 78. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell with Rev. Morris Johnson officiating. Interment will immediately follow the services at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned at the funeral home, located at 304 N. 2nd Street, on Friday evening, November 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

One of six children, Jackie was born November 2, 1935 in Stamford, Texas to Minnie (Turnbow) and Leslie Cox. Growing up in Haskell and a proud Haskell High School graduate, in Jackie's earlier years, he was in the grocery business along with farming here and there. Later, owner of a trucking company for dirt and gravel, Jackie retired after many years in the business, but always kept farming close to his heart and farmed for numerous years. He loved building and working on old tractors and enjoyed gardening. Jackie was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Minnie Cox; a son, Ricky Cox; 3 brothers, R.L. Cox, Jimmy Cox, Charles Cox; 2 sisters, Carolyn Atkinson, Mary Cox.

Jackie is survived by his son, Chris Cox and wife Laura of Buffalo Gap, Texas; brother, Rex Cox and wife Rosalie of Bandera, Texas; sister, Wilma Saunders of Sedona, Arizona; grandson, Dalton Cox of Buffalo Gap; 2 sisters-in-law, Eunice Larned and husband Joe of Haskell, Francis Cox of Albany, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Serving as Jackie's pallbearers are his nephews; Mike Cox, Randy Cox, Dennis Cox, Bob Cox, Michael Cox, and Bart Cox. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne and Wanda Ham and Kenny and Jeanine Powell.
