James William Davis, 91, a long-time resident of Throckmorton, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the New Life Assembly of God in Throckmorton, Texas with Reverend Peter Parker officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home. A visitation is planned for Friday evening, May 20, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home located at 107 North Austin, Throckmorton, Texas.
James was born on January 12, 1925, in Santa Ana, Texas, to Earnest Davis and Grace Irene (McGaughey) Davis. He married Dorothy Valrie (Culpepper) in August 10, 1944. He worked in the oilfield, built cabinets, and made custom boots. He loved hunting with his dogs, and playing his fiddle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Davis and Grace Irene (McGaughey) Davis; wife, Dorothy Valrie (Culpepper) Davis; son, Jimmy Davis; two brothers, Carlton Davis and Charles Davis; sister, Lucille Dewitt.
James is survived by his two daughters, Dorothy Wessling of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Lois Salmonson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons, Lynn Davis of Throckmorton, Texas and Tommy Davis of Corpus Christ, Texas; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Davis of Leakey, Texas; sister, Shirley Howard; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
